When Repair Isn't Enough

Signs You May Need a Full Replacement

Not every damaged roof needs replacing, but some do. Patching a roof with widespread hail bruising, widespread granule loss, or structural damage just delays the inevitable. We'll give you an honest assessment of which category you're in.

Widespread hail damage: when bruising covers most of the roof field
Granule loss: shingles at end of useful life, exposing the mat underneath
Multiple layers already present: most codes allow only two layers before full tear-off is required
Age: most 3-tab roofs last 15–20 years; dimensional shingles 25–30
Decking damage: when the sheathing beneath is soft, rotted, or compromised

Material Options

Choose What's Right for Your Home

We'll walk you through your options based on your insurance approval, your budget, and your home's style.

Most Common

Dimensional / Architectural

The standard for most Texas homes. Heavier than 3-tab, better wind resistance, longer warranty, and a cleaner shadow line. Available in a wide range of colors.

Upgraded

Impact-Resistant (Class 4)

Designed to resist hail impact. May qualify you for a discount on your homeowner's insurance premium. Worth asking your carrier about before you choose materials.

Premium

Designer / Luxury

Heavier profiles that mimic slate or wood shake. Longer warranties and a distinct look. Available through IKO's premium line. We'll show you samples.

IKO Roof Pro certified. As a manufacturer-vetted installer, we install to IKO specifications and can offer enhanced warranty coverage that uncertified contractors can't.

The Process

What to Expect on Replacement Day

Most residential replacements are completed in a single day. Here's how it typically unfolds from your driveway to your final walkthrough.

Step 1: Morning

Material Delivery & Staging

Shingle bundles are loaded directly onto your roof. The dumpster is positioned to protect your driveway and yard. We prep the site before a single shingle comes off.

Step 2

Full Tear-Off

All existing shingles, underlayment, and deteriorated materials are stripped to bare decking. Old material goes straight into the dumpster, not piled in your yard.

Step 3

Decking Inspection & Repair

Every board is inspected for rot, soft spots, and structural issues. Any compromised sheathing is replaced and documented before we proceed. No skipping this step.

Step 4

Underlayment & Leak Barriers

Synthetic underlayment covers the full deck. Ice and water shield goes down at eaves, valleys, and all penetrations, the areas where leaks most commonly originate.

Step 5

Shingles, Flashing & Ridge

Shingles are installed to IKO specifications: correct nail pattern, starter course, and overlap. All flashing is new: step, drip edge, pipe boots, and ridge cap. Nothing reused.

Step 6: Before We Leave

Cleanup & Final Walkthrough

Magnetic rolls collect nails from every surface. All debris is hauled away. We walk the property with you before we leave: roof, gutters, landscaping, and driveway.

Common Questions

Replacement FAQ

Most residential replacements are completed in one day. Larger homes, steep pitches, or complex roof lines may take two days. You'll have a covered roof overnight. We don't leave work exposed.
ACV (Actual Cash Value) pays you the depreciated value of your old roof. RCV (Replacement Cost Value) pays to actually replace it at current material and labor costs. Most policies default to ACV initially and release the depreciation (called "recoverable depreciation") after the work is completed and invoiced. We'll walk you through this on your specific claim paperwork.
Yes. Under Texas law (HB 2102), it is illegal for a contractor to waive, absorb, or rebate your insurance deductible. Any contractor who offers to "cover your deductible" is asking you to participate in insurance fraud. We follow the law and we'll explain exactly what your out-of-pocket cost will be upfront.
For insurance claims, your insurer approves a specific material grade. You can choose the color and style within that grade at no extra cost, or upgrade to a better grade and pay the difference. We'll bring samples and help you decide what looks right on your home.
Every job is different. Cost depends on roof size, pitch, material grade, and whether any decking repairs are needed. For insurance claims, your insurer sets the baseline and we work within that number. For cash projects, we price it honestly and walk you through every line item. The best starting point is a free inspection. We'll give you a real number, not a vague range.
Not for most of the day. We need access to your yard and driveway, and we'll ask you to be available for a brief walkthrough when we're done. Many homeowners go to work and come home to a completed roof. If anything unexpected comes up during the job, we'll contact you directly before proceeding.
IKO's dimensional and impact-resistant shingles carry limited lifetime material warranties. As an IKO Roof Pro certified installer, our workmanship is also covered separately through the certification program. We'll walk you through the specific warranty documentation before the job starts so you know exactly what's covered and for how long.
IKO Roof Pro certification means we've been vetted and approved directly by the manufacturer. It unlocks enhanced warranty protection (in some cases, workmanship coverage that wouldn't be available through an uncertified installer) and guarantees the installation meets manufacturer specifications, not just local code minimums.
